Any idea what the percentage is you have to pay in tax and NI if you sell before October?

You'll pay Income tax at 20%

National Insurance is worked out as:

The 1st £162 you earn per week = 0%
From £162.01 to £892 = 12%
Above £892 = 2%

So in practice how much NIC's you pay on your shares will depend on how much you earn in that particular week, aswell as what the share price is.

I'm sure you'll find it quite easy to work out how much you'll lose based on your typical weekly wage!

But considering you've waited over 1 year and 10 months since you could have sold your first batch of free shares, surely waiting a few more weeks to get them tax and NI free is no hardship?

Don't give up mate I've had two conduct cases in the last 2years 1st one 18 month suspended dissmisal with transfer, got transfer overturned,2nd I was sacked but was reinstated on appeal, they took my shares when I was sacked and took months to get them back when I was reinstated,so I would sell if I was you, what you done mate I might be able to help you,I'll tell you this the royal mail managers will try and push for you to be sacked no matter what you've done/said,but the appeals managers are fair,so don't give up and appeal any decision they make,GOOD LUCK MATE DONT GIVE UP

If you lose the case, the shares older than 3 years will be transferred to you, and you will pay tax and NI on them. Any younger you will lose.

So beyond share price fluctuations you won't lose anything by holding on to them.

If you resign or are dismissed

If you resign or are dismissed within three years after being given the Free Shares, you will lose the shares.

If you resign or are dismissed more than three years after being given the Free Shares you will not lose your Free Shares.

If you leave between three and five years after being given the Free Shares, you will need to pay any income tax and National Insurance that is due, but if you leave after five years no income tax or National Insurance will be due.
