new start and finishing times help?

Recently my depot introduced new start times and finishing times. I’m a part timer and I used to come in 1 hour before my official start time to prep my walk. I never claimed overtime for this but it ensured that I got out the door early and that I could Be back to my depot at my official finishing time.
With the new start times I’m not getting back to the depot until after my official finishing times. This is partly to do with the volume of mail/parcels, Lapsing and because often my walk isn’t prepped by full timers when it should be. My question is, do I have to work past my official finishing times? I don’t see the point in putting in overtime because I never get it. Due to personal issues outside work I can’t work after my contracted finishing time. How do I go about dealing with this? Thanks

You were working an hour for free why ? You do not have to go over your time , if you want overtime fair enough. See your union rep I would suggest.

At first I would claim overtime but I was never paid it. Then when I questioned it my manager told me that I wasn’t asked to come in early, it was my choice to do so. Now that we have these new start and finishing times, they are very strict about the start times and won’t allow us to start any earlier but expect us to work past our finishing time. If we say to managers that we can’t work later that what our finishing time is we are made to feel incompetent, a nuisance or like we’re asking for special treatment. They make us feel bad about it. They can be very persuasive and pushy. I’ve had enough of working past my finishing time and although I claim overtime for it, I’m never paid it. Thanks for your advice. I’ll chat to a Rep tomorrow.

No.

Overtime is voluntary in Royal Mail.

Speak to your rep or use a colleague as a witness when you inform the manager.

But more importantly - pop into Downloads and read the "Overunning Deliveries Procedure" as we say - ROYALMAILCHAT :nam et ipsa scientia potestas est

Say to the DOM that you think your walk may be too long and ask for him to come out with you to time the delivery. Do not come in an hour every day early unpaid - RM will not respect you for it & it is effectively slavery. If you cannot get the walk shortened use the overrunning procedure and ask the DOM what he wants to do with the mail you don't have time to deliver within your duty.

Correct. Stick to your guns mate. They can throw all nonsense about prep times etc to intimidate you. If they do this please keep notes with witnesses dates and times and what was said and put in a b and h complaint if you feel like it’s not going to stop. Once you do this they should leave you alone if they don’t you can take it further
