Day off on bank holiday

Some of the guys are asking to be paid a day's overtime instead of taking an extra days leave, but managers not allowing any more, saying not allowed.

Any clarity on this? I was under the impression it's allowed.

Of course it is allowed.
Ask him to show you when the choice of pay instead of a day in lieu was stopped.

I told my colleagues I didn't think it stopped, and to phone HR to double check. Would seem like a strange thing to do away with.

My day off was Monday 7 May, a few days later I was asked "money or leave". I went for money as getting leave is impossible, and I got it in the following week's pay the same as with overtime. We do longs and shorts, so it was 7hr 35m extra pay.
