SA on day off

Hi Are you obliged to cover an SA duty on your rest day? IE If you do an evening collection and it falls on your rotating day off,is it your responsibility to come in and do it or alternatively find a sub to cover it? Or should the gaffer get it covered because you are not due to work that day .

It has always been left up to our Dom to get it covered, not sure on an agreement for it though. It would seem a bit unfair for to have to travel to your office for a couple of hours sa as your could live some distance away. If I was you I would try and get a a local agreement in place to cover yourself for the future

In our office the posties that do the SAs talk to each other and coordinate the days to SAs amongst themselves. Occasionally some might come in on their day off to do an SA but the majority of the time they share them out so that wouldn't happen. It works the majority of the time. Bit of give & take.

A strict interpretation of the agreement would mean that you have to work it. But as suggested get your rep and DOM to get an agreement in place.

I'm confused, do some offices sign for them then? In ours one of the older posties does the rota the week before, it isn't set or anything. I can end up doing anything from 2 - 5 sa's in a week depending of holidays ect. We also do different ones. Nobody has a duty like our walks. If it's your day off you or you're on leave you never get put down; the guy organising it must get advanced copies of the rota.

In our DO we usually have the next six to ten weeks rota for walk duties up on the wall. So unless someone goes sick etc they will be correct. Posties who want to do SAs register their interest when others stop doing them. They then sign to do SAs officially with RM. The posties who have signed to do them 'huddle' and decide which and how many days to do based on after work commitments and days off. We have two SA collection duties and they are shared out between about six posties.
