A couple of questions...

If the delivery office is clear of all mail and there is nothing left to do and you get finished early,can you go home or can management make you stay until your finish time?

Also,our local agreement is we are allowed to take two twenty minute breaks,one i take roughly mid way through my duty but the other is allowed to be taken at the end,so in theory if your finish time is 15.00 you can go at 14.40.Now today management have said they can make you stay in the office for that final 20 minute break instead of going home,is this correct?I thought as that 20 minutes is my own time i can do pretty much what i want and not on work premises,cheers.

just tell them that you don't mind. but when its busy and they want you to work over you will also be finishing on time. they'll soon change their tune

You are entitled to 40mins on a full shift. Your break is your break..i.e, you don't work it!!
It's just cowboys in charge these days..

They cannot make you stay in the office for the final 20 minutes of your meal relief.
It is in The Way Forward:

Breaks at the beginning or end of attendance

Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off.

Those are the words of the national agreement.
Attendance is not required.

Yes, unless you surrender your pay and even then its doubtful.

They are paying you, so unless you have a legitimate reason to leave, and with their agreement, yes, of course, they can make you stay to your finish time even if their is no work.

This comes from the Pay and Mod agreement (2007) when the Union/Membership accepted it.

To ensure all paid work hours are utilised

Nothing about there being work to do, in fact the emphasis is on the fact you are paid so you should remain.

So just to clear it up,i can be kept to my finish time BUT can leave 20 minutes before that for my break that is owed to me and i can't be made to take it on work premises?
