Authorised Absence?

Post by strangler »

What constitutes Authorised Absence? If you have to go into hospital for an operation and have a date for this and a rough idea of the recuperation period would this fall into this category?
If so does it then follow that if, for example, you were involved in an accident or sudddenly fell ill and had to be rushed to hospital, that would be classed as sick leave simply on the basis that they had no pre-warning about this?

At my RDC, if you need time off for any kind of treatment, they won't give you paid Special Leave. You can either use your Annual Leave, or take unpaid Special Leave. Quite frankly, they couldn't care less about our health. We are merely numbers on a balance sheet to them, nothing else.

Who told you to come back to work?
Was it the PO DR or some senior RM knobjockey area manager who thinks he`s DR Kildare?

Unsure if this helps ut go it from this page http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/employers/employee_sick.htm#5a

When and what medical evidence should your employee give you?
Evidence of incapacity for work

You must tell your employees what you expect them to give you as evidence of incapacity for SSP purposes and when you expect them to give it. You can't withhold SSP for late receipt of medical evidence but you can for late notification of sickness.

They can use form SC2 for self-certification, or your own equivalent form, for spells of sickness lasting four to seven days.

After that you can ask for reasonable medical evidence but can only ask for a doctor's statement after the first seven days in a spell of sickness. You can then ask for regular doctor's statements to cover the balance of the sick absence.

Remember a doctor's statement is strong evidence of incapacity and should usually be accepted as conclusive unless there is more compelling evidence to the contrary.

I think there is an amount of PAID leave IE... SpL Lv A.. Given to any person needing URGENT LEAVE. IE.. House broken into.. Burst pipes indoors. Illness of (close) relative. Close as in WIFE. HUBBIE. KIDS.. Helping the Police with there inquires.

There is i think its 7 days a year agreed in the IA framework or a reasonable amount given on each case on a indervidual bases...

Check this out as i got SPL/LV/A For one of the above...

Its there for times when you just cant come to work because of leaving the situation would make it worse..

Its time to make RM stand up to there words of ... "ITS A GREAT PLACE TO WORK." And make them act like they preach....

I got paid special leave when my son broke his arm at school and had to have an operation the next day-Simpson & Millar are on that case :cool

When I told LM I was due to have an op they insisted on seeing the paper work from the hospital but I was unlikely to get paid leave and would probably have to take unpaid as I could'nt use my annual leave as it was during Xmas Pressure weeks and the computer would'nt accept any annual leave dates, sounds like a load of cr*p to me, did'nt really matter anyway got taken sick again and my op was during the date on my sick cert.

I guess its down to the discretion of your DOM, if hes sensible you should be paid

When a manager tried to tell us at a WTLL session that we could no longer take a half-day's annual leave, because 'the computer cannot handle half-days', I said 'CHANGE THE FECKIN' COMPUTER, THEN' to roars of laughter.

Typical management (rhymes with trap)
