PAY :THE FUTURE ?

Post by k979aaa »

Now on the eve of our pay rise where upon we receive our 5.4% plus backpay from the 1st october 2007 + the £175 from the esos pot !. We now look to the future for that is our focus now but i must tell you all now that the future has been decided already for next year's pay rise is 1.5% linked to (successful roll out of national trials) ?. This pay rise is theirfor linked to phase 3 in section two of the "agreement" this section is titled (TRANSFORMING THE WAY WE WORK) now haveing been looking at this section i have come to the conclusion that £5.13 pence (1.5%) is not worth the sacriffice's we would have to make to receive such a pitance. IT IS NOW UP TO US ALL TO DEFEND OUR CONDITION'S AND JOB'S AS BEST AS WE CAN!.

The one saving grace is that is rolled out office by office - so you are going to get some offices busting their nuts to achieve the 1.5 and others who'll carry on as they are without even trying to achieve it - as the geo route hasn't rolled out yet there is another bone of contention to be resolved. Our office guru says he wants it rolled out in January - our Rep says it may be done in January but 2009 - the geo route is not yet complete and therefore until the total changes are up for discussion there is no discussion. Fair play to him.

And good on your rep he is on the ball defending your right's but we must all beaware for it will not be the case in all office's. Now i feel i must make you all aware of phase 3 in section two of this agreement and hear it is word for word (Both parties are committed to introducing new ways of working throughtout the business by april 2008. in order to achieve this there will be a trial in four office's per AGM area covering the following. 1 New arrangement's to cover for one another and develop sensible options to absorob absences, and increased workload, where time exists within normal hour's. 2 To ensure all paid work hour's are utilised 3 To create a working environment where empoloyees, CWU rep's and managers feel valued and motivated). POINT'S 1 and 2 are the one's we should beaware of the third is management bullsh*t!.

You old cynic - I haven't had the pay rise yet so I don't totally feel valued at the moment and as for motivation weeeeeeeeelll I suppose there is an outside chance though what incentives they'd have to lure me with would probably be illegal, still they say everyone has their price.

Yes it makes you question the wisdom and vision of our leadership agreeing to a two year pay deal just as most financial experts are predicting the imminent onset of a period of stagflation, 0% growth and soaring inflation a prediction backed up by the way by news of the leading monetary authorities injecting £50 billion into the economy in an attempt to avert an economic crash.
What price hindsight Billy an Dave ,a teeny bit of foresight might have come in handy as well

Maybe they seen the writeing on the wall and decided it be more cosey in gordon's bed than with the membership!. But your point's about the economy are spot on and if we get hyper inflation we will all be wiped out big time for that is the problem with two year deal's!.

One extra point, though most probably realise:
Now that the precedent of not backdating pay rises has been established RM have a very real financial incentive for making try it on offers in the future, with a tame union only too happy to enter very long negotiations. Win win for one side

Hiya
I am a unison rep at birmingham city council who posted on this site a few times during your dispute,
and i want to say a couple of things about what's going on here (well, THERE as i am off for a couple of days):

after we ballotted nationally over the pay offer of 2% and voted in favour of action "continuous until the dispute is settled", the union 'leadership' decided that we wouldn't strike but would settle for the 2.495% revised offer.
to me, this proves that it is G.Brown, the head of the party we pay loads of money to through our political fund, that is the one cutting our pay (2 or 2.495% is a real pay CUT)...

so we got this titchy pay rise which takes me from £6.42 to 6.58 an hour, backdated to April 07
but the week we got the backpay ("sickpay backpay"; "holiday backpay"; "backpay", etc) they didn't pay us our WAGES (the 6 payslips i have seen anyway, including my own) so what looks like a top pay-week of over £300 is actually a fkn swindle.

the union branch have said to just follow the individual procedure when you don't get paid properly, but as far as i know that's an amended timesheet but our timesheets were fine... -
so BEWARE, and be sure that they know just what they are doing!

Now lets be fair ,good old Gordon is only holding public sector pay below inflation to save us all from the ravages of increased inflation.

But you would think ,being an ex chanc. he might have realised that creating £50 billion of new money and presenting it as available credit to banks is practically THE MOST inflationary thing you can do.

We get pay cuts to prevent inflation ,at the same time banks get credit to promote it, I guess it's a balance :chuckle

HIGHER WAGES DON'T CAUSE INFLATION
in any way except that as inflation is the rate that prices are going up,
that commodities (ie things that are for sale, on the market) are going up

and our 'labour' - our work-time, is a commodity with value

they are cutting public sector pay because our wages (and conditions) are better than those of the private sector
with whom we now have to 'compete'
(i provide care for disabled adults, by the way)
and really the private sector is where we are headed -

unless we can stop them (that is, the capitalists and their representatives) from attacking us,
or defeat them
but this requires a whole programme which would need to offer an alternative
THAT IS to the system of capitalism which runs society just to make profits....

gosh, another splifff is in order...!
