Funeral

A friend of mine passed away last week and I would really like to attend the funeral, is there any entitlement to attend the funeral or do I have to take unpaid leave or holiday?

Sadly there is no specific Special Leave for funerals except for immediate family.

However, any decent manager would allow you to swap days off with someone, book a days annual or take a day unpaid.

You, of course, have my and RMCs condolences.

Firstly, to echo TBT above, condolences for your loss.

Secondly, attend your friend's funeral, however you can. Swap days off, as per the advice above, take a day off or, failing all other courses of action, 'catch a cold' and take the day off sick.

Royal Mail will still be there tomorrow. Your friend's funeral will not. Go and say goodbye.

Word of advice don't go sick if you have already asked for the day off.
