BOXING DAY WORKING ON NIGHTS.

Post by Cheapy »

HI, I WORK IN CANTERBURY MAIL CENTRE AND WE ARE BEEN TOLD WE HAVE TO WORK BOXING DAY NIGHT. I HAVE ONLY JUST SWITCHED TO NIGHTS THIS YEAR BUT UNDERSTAND THAT THIS HASN'T BEEN THE CASE IN THE LAST FEW YEARS. I WOULD JUST LIKE SOME CLARITY AS TO WETHER THIS IS CORRECT PROCEDURE OR WETHER WE ARE ENTITLED TO THE DAY OFF. I UNDERSTAND WE WILL BE WORKING LESS HOURS BUT BELIEVE THERE WAS A 2004 AGREEMENT THAT STOPPED CLAW BACK OF HOURS.
AS WE ALL KNOW THIS IS ONE OF THE MAIN DAYS ON THE FAMILY CALENDER AND I WOULD PREFER NOT TOO BE WORKING IT. ONE MORE THING OUR START TIMES HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ADJUSTED TO A 10.15PM START THUS ELIMNATING OUR CHANCE OF A DAY IN LIEU IF WE DO HAVE TO WORK.
ANY THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS WELCOME.
THANKS JAMES.

There is a major uproar in our RDC :evil/mad 20+ Drivers are in on Boxing day night starting as early as 6pm to do runs and 40+ are in New Years Day night ( myself included) from 5:30pm. My run is a good one drive to another RDC which i have been told by a Driver from that depot is not opening till midnight  I'm due to arrive at 10:30 and depart an hour later according to my 318, which is fine because that means the place is locked and the work coming back to its starting point :nana
What a waste of fuel and manpower and all we get is a day in lieu. A couple of drivers have been put down for both days  while managers sit at home with their family's :Sick Needless to say some are refusing to attend or ringing in saying they are still over the limit from the night before.
Network Driver;nights.

Sound like you have been doing a Brian Hanrahan “I counted them out, and I counted them all backâ€

We all know from experience that Boxing Day working as a waste of time, there is no work in the system. You have to see this as a smack from the business for taking industrial action.
Winning is for losers!!
