Hi all, Had a team meeting today which turned confrontational, the issue being holidays.
I don't know what other offices are like but getting single days off no matter how long in advance you may have applied is simply impossible, the excuse being SICKNESS is too high in the office to allow people off. I could understand this but it has been the same for the four years I have been there and have been turned down on every occasion in that time along with most of the office (apart from the usual crowd who kiss doms arse).
Today I asked the dom and the union rep, if we can not get time off can we at least get the holidays paid up at the end of the holiday year. ANSWER: No, the inland revenue/ tax man does not allow this. I was told it would only be paid up when you retire or decide to leave.
Can anyone tell me is this accurate or what steps to take because this sounds like utter nonsense to me. Any help is much appreciated.

I think he means accrued leave and they will not give you single days they would rather it disappear or you leave or if you have a few take it in one block as a week! it's all to do with staffing the office never going to pay for extra staff the only other way round it is ask to pay someone swap or barter with the usual crowd or go sick that will throw the cat amongst the pidgins looking for overtime!

I've never heard of so much crap. Your ENTITLED to your holidays. I can see a Dom of today's RM trying piss like that but a REP. Wtf is going on. Are things really that bad now in the job. Get in touch with AREA, and if their weak and feable then take it to the top. Just ask MOYA. Its f.....g pathetic the way that Postie's these days are treated but they don't seem to stand up for themselves as much. C,Mon we all fought for extra holidays and allowances by going out, and losing other perks like n.d.a ect. Not for the new guys to be p...d all over. I'm not some old fart I'm only 49 and recently nearly came back in but realised at the last minute that I wouldn't be able to take what yous put up with now. I respect the ones who can put up with the b and h but I couldn't look at myself in the mirror personally.

In our office any holidays u may have left over, a couple of days for example are constantly carried over from year to year. I have been in the job four years and already have something like 100 hours which has been carried over since 2014. It hasn't been for a lack of trying in applying for single days but they are constantly refused on the basis that sickness in the office is too high. Another guy has over 100 days from something like 11 years. We sign for our main 4,5 or 6 weeks in November for the following year but as you are aware there is still hours left which should be for single days etc.
I thought this was maybe an issue on a larger scale, as I mentioned I said if u cant give me a single day then at least give me the money for the hours which are being forcibly carried over year after year. So if I have 10 hours come the end of March an I haven't been granted any holiday requests then just pay me for those 10 hours. The response was we cant, if you have holiday hours that we cant allow you to take then we will pay u them on you leaving or retiring.
If that is confusing please ask cause i would appreciate other thoughts on this.

That's what I thought mate, others in the office seem to have accepted it for years but will need to take it further. Blatantly ripping us off.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
