Attendance Stages question

Post by Zuccho »

So to keep it simple. My stage 1 cleared a few weeks ago. I’m now absent again but have had 4 absences in the last 12 months(previous stage absences included) but only 1 since my stage cleared. Will I be given a stage regardless due to historical absences due to the totting up? Thanks

It should have been fully explained at your stage one interview. As far as I know, they're cleared after 6 months so start again with clean slate. Think about it. If your last absence was for a month , then after 6 months of no absence you get taken off stage one. If the one month absence is still in the last 12 months, you would be put straight back into stage one. This obviously wouldn't happen so I would say if your clear after six months, you start counting from that day again. I think!

Well that’s what i thought but they’ve counted old absences before towards stages so that’s why I’m asking on the union forum. Can someone who knows for sure from the union clarify?

I’m pretty sure once they’ve used an absence in the formal procedure they can’t use it again

That may be true as the ones they’ve used previously have been the “loose” ones when on the stage before. Would still like some definite clarity though if anyone knows for certain.

to clarify.

If you had a stage 1 issued previously then all of those absences that were part of that consideration cannot be considered again due to the stage 1 being issued.
You will now only have 1 absence to be considered for the next stage 1 when you have either exceeded the 13 days or had more than 3 new absences in the rolling 12 months.
If you had not had the stage 1 issued then all of the previous absences would be considered again.

Been informed by a senior union rep that ALL absences in a 12 month period are live therefore any absence would trigger a new stage 1. It’s irrelevant to my scenario now however but thanks everyone for the advice.
