Saturday start times

Post by weetrogg »

For all offices that have still not reverted to their old sat times, you must get your rep to come to a WTL, get the dim to attend and then TELL them that the deals in, and as of next sat you will be returning to your old time, they will refuse and threaten you with disciplinary action but there is nothing they can do!!! The reason its so important to make this stand is because i think they are testing the willpower and togetherness of each office and if you do not make this stand they will think they can steamroller anything they want at anytime, unfortunatley its a bad deal and the only way to make the best of it is to stand firm, by doing this your dim and his area manager will know that if they want things they will have to reach agreements, if not i fear the consequences will be dire for the WEAK offices :no no :no no

We had a vote in our office a few weeks back asking if we wanted to return to 5am starts on a Saturday, overwhelming NO, if they can get the mail to us early on a Saturday they can do it the rest of the week.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

I don't want to start at 5am on a Saturday, no way.

Others might fine by me, but I know my preference.

You'd be right there. It is a divisive issue - some do want to start early and some don't - like all democratic processes we have to go along with the majority.
Our DOM said he'd had a quick vote at WTL and no one seemed that interested - our Rep said "Crap, you negotiate with the CWU reps" and quite rightly so the agreement is between RM and the CWU membership - anyone who isn't a member doesn't come into the equation really. If you consider that there are possibly 50/60k employees who aren't members and therefore who aren't balloted, which would represent about 30% and the 40% who chose not to vote there could be a considerable difference of opinion on any issue.

I wonder as an aside how the CWU are combating the issue of part time contracts? Part time contracts = part time subscriptions soooooooo they are going to have to either increase the membership, which is bloody unlikely under the circumstances or put the subs up year on year pro rata.

We,ve been back on our old saturday start times since the end of the unoffical action here in liverpool, the problem we,ve got now is that we start at 5.30 go on the primary at 6.00 and because we have nights on a friday there is little sorting to do so when we,ve thrown our walks in were hanging around for a van that is supposed to come at 7.00, but nine times out of ten its late and its nearly always full so were not getting out untill after 8.00 some lads near 9.00, so it seems like a waste of time coming in early, the only difference to a weekday is theres no missort run.

You've pretty much said it all there - it's not what time you start - it's what time you get away.

tell that to our office.saturday the bosses tried to keep us in until 10 oclock...until they had a near riot on thier hands,so they backed down and let us out at 9...these saturdays have to go back to the old start times otherwise there is going to be a lot of s**t between management and staff...
