A friend of mine was today suspended for signing a recorded delivery 3 weeks ago but the person who was supposed to be receiving it says they never got it.She has been suspended for not looking after the customers mail and for signing for it.I think this is abit harsh for a missing book.Is this a sackable offence cheers

It will depend on their current disciplinary record.

I bet this goes on in every office,posties signing for R/Ds This is all it takes though,someone says they have not received it and the s**t hits the fan.I feel realy sorry for your mate,and hope your rep sorts her out I just hope colleagues around the country stop doing this as its just not worth the aggro for the sake of leaving a 739.

Thats the procedure while they carry out there investigations,if they never done that a good rep will get her off

The worst thing about it all is the normal postie for the round says it was ok to sign them on the round because the people were ok.i know this is not the case but thats what happened.She admitted to the boss that she told her this and that she always does it and the dum replied with you must stop doing it then suspends my friend

Ronaldo, sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation, but as a relative newbie it surprises me that some posties would even consider signing a recorded delivery on the customers behalf!!! What on earth does such a postie sign? eg:- Do they sign their own name, or do they try and fake the customers own signature? Or do they just sign "Mickey Mouse" ????

Whichever way you look at it - the correct procedures should be followed or you only have yourself to blame.

I'm sorry this is NOT what you want to hear, and I do genuinely sympathize, but in the kind of climate where Royal Mail are "looking" to catch people out it really is not worth cutting corners and putting yourself at risk.

Anyway I hope your friend gets it sorted out. Good Luck.

i quite regulary sign for items including specials but bare in mind ive been on my delivery for years and i know most of the people and they know me but saying that if its someone im not too sure about i allways reach for the 739 cards
most people will say to me a few days b4 there expecting something and can i sign it for em if there out
its all about getting to know the people on your delivery but it does take years to build up a relationship with them

Technically I would think its fraud so yes it would be - although if she has an unblemished record she may get a 2 year serious.

My motto is CYB (cover your back) at all times! I don't doorstep or sign for anything now unless there's a note on the bench from the customer saying it's OK.
Re: sacking - it's a strong possibility. Depends on your DOM & your colleagues record. It may well depend on the value of the item too. If RM have to shell out loads of compo, they may well be less inclined to be lenient.
