Maximum delivery span?

Is there any national agreement for maximum time out on delivery? A few deliveries in our office would be over 5 hours if they didn’t cut off on heavy days. Managements answer to this is to get these bigger deliveries out earlier. Do we have any right to say I can only deliver so long?

Royal Mail and CWU agree that the length of the delivery span can be an enabler in bringing about mutual benefits. From now on, within the process of duty revision negotiations, spans must be looked at in the context of an enabler rather than a fixed amount of time to be aimed at.

In essence, the span will no longer be an objective in itself. Instead office revisions should look to define a set of revision objectives in line with the Delivery Revision Process and then negotiate and agree a duty span/structure that best meets these objectives, taking into account local factors and safety issues in route design.

Thanks for that. I know for me personally if I do more than 4 hours of walking not including travel times etc I am struggling physically. Does this not then become a health and safety issue?

1 walk in our office was taken out by the union man and work place coach,done correctly and took 6hrs 20 mins,and nothing has changed,

Doesn’t matter how long the delivery is.
Come in on time, prep/sort on the IPS, take a break. See how long you think you can get done in your contract hours and cut off

Couldn’t agree more. The problem is managers are targeting these duties putting extra prep in to get them out early. My argument is no matter how early you get out after 5 hours on delivery it’s going affect your health. Where do you think we would stand coming back early on health grounds (ie aching joints)?

Prep d2ds. Don’t read letters whilst walking. Use your trolley. Have a break. Deliver to neighbour. Scan everything....when they have to cover it everyday they’ll have to do something eventually
