From The Way Forward..
13.9 Where several employees start on the same day, the following factors will determine the relative order: firstly, any periods of Post Office service on other grades, secondly, date of selection and, thirdly, date of birth.

It has been known that other offices have used the toss of a coin.

Surely it should be who has the lowest pay number...as they were technically in the company first?

A few years ago in our last re-pick there was 6 of us who started at the same time and I was told it was done on age.
I was the youngest and consequently missed on a full time contract but, I got one not long after.
I was told that the next re-pick would have to be done in reverse age order to be fair from the last one.

Date of selection and date of birth are not normally used because you would need to contact HR for selection date and their records pre-2000 are incomplete and date of birth is possibly/maybe no longer compatible with discrimination legislation (nobody really knows because nobody cares enough to go to an ET over it).

Basically sort it out like adults, it's not that important.

Wouldn't that breach the Data Protection Act.

Unless you count the one question at the interview.
I was asked when I could start.
I said today.
He said you'll do.
