sick line ,royal mail. advice

Hi I had an open hernia repair 0n the 4/12/2017 I have a sick line covering me till 22/012018 .I had requested holiday leave in October for 08/01/2018 till 22/01/2018
before I new when op would take place . I spoke to my manager last week 3 weeks after op he is trying to pressure me to sign off on the 8th and use my holiday leave .
He said that they have been told that I should take 4 to 6 weeks recovery after op . I also have discharge letter which says I should do no heavy lifting( bag of sugar) for 8 weeks min. Can they force me back or make me use my leave even with sick line till 22/01 .

Tell him he’s not a doctor and that you’re signed off and if he has a problem then refer you to ATOS.
You’ll get your holiday credited back

Definitely not your sick covers you from your hospital until the 22/01/18. You are either sick or on holiday and in your case you are sick and your holiday will have to be credited back to you.
The recovery of 4 to 6 weeks after op will be determined by OH Assist ( formally ATOS) or HR Services who are now the interface for OH Assist and a rehabilitation plan will be designed regarding workload and hours of attendance and will be monitored by weekly reports. If you feel that their expectance of you is more than you can complete then the weekly meeting is your opportunity to ask for further adjustments.

I often wonder as to which part of the fit note the management don't understand ,is it the bit that says after being examined ,you are not fit for work. Or is the fact that Royal Mail management undego superior medical and surgical training ,to the 20 + years that mere mortal medical practitioners receive, give them the right to decide when you are fit for duty. I despair,I really do.

It is amazing how some mgrs become fully medically in less than 5mins these days!
