Re pick and the union.

Post by mjt120 »

Need some info please we are currently having a revision and have just had a vote for either a re pick or stay as we are, now this morning we've been told that this vote is now void and only union members can vote, surely this Carnt be correct we have all voted in good faith, the reason is the union rep and his mate want full time hours and the way the vote was he wouldn't be able to get the hours as the majority had voted to stay as we are on our dutys and he wanted a full re pick to enable him to pick a full time duty and get the hours, The office has a majority of non union members and they are up in arms over this as we had all voted, and I have to say some union members in the office are very upset over this and are coming out of the union because of this..

Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks

He is correct. Royal Mail have collective agreements with their Union, and only Union members get to vote on Union matters.

In effect, by not joining the CWU you have agreed to accept any changes without input.

The counter argument is that CWU members pay voluntarily to join, so why should people who don't pay have the same voice as CWU members on Union matters.

The rep is there to represent the Unions members, not the non-members.

I suppose RM could have a vote for all members of a unit, but not sure how legal that would be, and whether it would break any agreements they have with the Union. Certainly, the Union can't run a vote with non-members involved that I believe is against the rules.

Ok thanks for info. Shame we had the vote in the first place I think this is what has upset people then being told it's void. But our office is a total shambles at the best of times tbh..
