Transfer has been Accepted relocating. But we have not got place to live yet

I put in for a transfer to an office over a 100 miles from where I currently work. My transfer has been accepted, I have been informed I have been released but I am away on a 2 week holiday at the moment and my current line manager says the new manager would like me to go down there next week. I was hoping to find a house on the area before I transferred. What I need to know now I have been released can the start date be negotiated? As I am out of the country I have no contact of my new manager. What are the guidelines for a transfer? Thanks

Try to get in touch with union reps in the area you a relocating to, you can find the details online. I have just transferred but applied back in February. I've had trouble finding somewhere to live as we have dogs and not a lot of rental properties accept pets but I kept the office informed all along the way and made the transfer this week. In my opinion the 28 days they give you is a little tight given that you need to find accommodation. I also had a school to sort for my daughter and these things don't happen overnight. Google Union reps in or near your new office and they should help you, they were great for me.

Thanks for the reply, that is good to hear, I will speak to my union rep. f my rep cant do amything I will use google. How long did your transfer actually take, also the 28 days are from when you apply or when transfer was acceptes.

I think the 28 days is from acceptance but I started on the 4th of June but had my transfer accepted in late February so way more than 28 days. Hopefully you shouldn't have a problem, most offices now are understaffed so should be able to wait for you if it's gonna take a little longer.

Are there different rules at DO regarding transfer to what they are in Mail Centre, as I was recently told I need to go online, find a job elsewhere in the country and apply ?

I was told that in the beginning also but that's not the case, there is an internal vacancy page on myroyalmail where you log in to order uniform under "me at work" and "careers" you need to log in to that and it shows you all the vacancies across the business and you apply on there. I think it used to be easier as the Dom could sort it for you but now you have to do the chasing yourself. If you're full time though you might struggle because the majority of the jobs I saw advertised are only part time. Also like I said previously, if you can find out who the union reps are for the particular area you want to be and speak to them, they may be able to help you. You can only transfer though if there is a vacancy in that area. Good luck.

Cool. Thank you . I will try to log in there and see, my as well order some uniform while I am on it.
I hope me having big lorry licence will help, everthough on a daily basis I do 7,5t puddle jumper mainly to DO and occasional vans around postboxes, firms and POC.
Houses here are 100k + , I do not want to be mortgage slave to a bank and I noticed houses can be had for as little as 30k in livpool for example . And I mean houses with garden front and back and a few bedrooms as opposed to rabit hutch style studio with no parking space. 100k my a$$, I am not having it as just a cost of mortgage interest of lets say 3% a year is £3000 and that is what I pay now for my room in a shared house ( £70 for 52 weeks a year=£3640 to be precise )
Having to move 200 miles is no problem for me as I have already moved over 1000 miles from my home town and I lived the other side of the world as well for a while

I thought I would give an update, transfer is the end of this month and its a full time contract but advertised as part time. A word of advice for anyone if you see a job part time but want full time, call the office and ask, because they may put you on a full time contract.
