Hi Everyone
I have query about the sick policy of royal mail.
What would happen if someone went on holidays outside UK for 3 weeks and while coming back to UK in his last days of holidays had a serious accident and can't return back to UK for a long time say 6-9 months
This happened to one of my friend who work as a part time postman in north west, he went to philippines (his home country) for 3 weeks on official holidays but just had a road traffic accident there and is now admitted to the hospital, at this moment he is on Coma, but doctors said that he can't travel and advised for complete bed rest for atleast 6 -9 months.
So will he get paid while he is still outside UK and what the royal mail can do for him, will he get sacked, will royal mail accept doctor's note of another country ?
so many questions please advice
Thanks

he will only be paid sick if he has worked for RM for over a year - that's something to bear in mind
and I would imagine RM would want something official from the hospital direct - as any company would
Hope your friend gets better soon!

thanks for the replies
But can Royal mail sack him for not being in UK for such a long time on sick
And what is the procedure which the managers follow in such a case
How long will he be paid on sick

He'll get full pay for the first 6 months
Followed by half pay for the following 6 months
There can't sack him as long as he keeps in contact with management
And send's sick note every week
He should be fine.
How soon will he be fit to fly back to uk ?

well I am not sure when he will be fit , but i assume it will take a bit longer as the doctors have asked for a complete bed red for 6-9 months, he has a broken bone in the leg, does he still have to send sick note every week as the doctors have already adviced for bed rest for atleast 6 months , so the hospital doctor will give a sick note for 6 months in the beginning.

He can send the six months sick note
But he'll also need to provide a sick note
Weekly until he's in UK as it's royal mail policy
If your sick abroad then you'll need to provide sick
Note weekly.he'll need to get in contact with management as soon as possible.

provide a sick note weekly, that sounds strange, i dont think any hospital or doctor will provide a sick note on weekly basis if the patient is already diagnosed to be bed ridden for 6 months or so ....
