Seniority after broken service?

Post by witters »

Can anyone please give me a definitive answer to this? As I understand it, if you leave and then rejoin, any seniority re duty picking etc is lost, but you retain your previous service for holiday entitlement?

TIA

All periods of service on a temporary or permanent contract (with periods of casual service included only if they run continuously into a temporary or permanent contract), except for those on unpaid leave, SPPR, or with HM Forces exceeding 15 days, will count towards calculating leave due. Previous periods of PO service may be counted for this purpose.

I did 13 years service from 1991 till 2004 and then came back to work for them in 2010 till present, so to back my argument up with dim is there anywhere I can print this agreement off. How many weeks holiday would I be entitled to. At the moment I get something like 23.5 days. Thanx

Be aware the onus is on you to prove your previous service ( crazy I know but a 2 friends of mine have just been through this)

One had kept old pay slips and sent them off to HR and all was fine they got their leave bumped up to include it, the other had nothing and got nothing

They tried HR but were told their records did not go back that far, and it is HR you have to prove it to not your DOM as they control your holiday allocation

The RM pension scheme will have your details.

You'd think so wouldn't you - they were told their records didn't go back that far either!

I have a colleague who was a postwoman for 15 years, left for 3 years, then came back and has been with us for the past 15 years, 30 years in total. The thing is that she's been paying extra to get six weeks annual leave because she didn't realise that she's actually entitled to it. Will she get her money back? I think she's been paying for her "extra" week for at least 6 years.

I need hr and they told me I've got to get my dim to email the attendance team and ask them. Does this make sense, they said something about the PSP system?

Just been through all this myself.
I originally worked for Rm between 1985 and 1990.

More recently from 2004 to present.

i contacted HR but their records don't go back that far.
I contacted pensions but they couldn't find me and apparently the first few years are not actually paid into what they call your full pension (so they told me over the phone) and as such they can't even try and look through historical records as i won;t be in there.
Was told DOM should contact attendance team. Asked my DOM 4 times in 4 months and in the end i emailed them myself.
I had dates i started and left. national Insurance Number, full details of office i worked in and even my old badge number.

But no good they can't find any record of me either.

Only option now is to go through my Tax office.
having already spoken to them i have been told to complete an online form, print it off and post it recorded or Special Delivery.
There is a backlog of enquiries at the momemnt - due to all the compensation claims that these robbing little firms are putting through - but i should receive notice that they have my form in about 14 months.
Yes that's not a mistake - it will take 14 MONTHS to even acknowledge they have my form.

So that's the road i have to go down now and just hope any new agreement made in the meantime doesn't remove the entitlement altogether.
