Hi all, does anyone know whether it is mandatory to drive for royal mail. I am sick of being threatened with conduct code over any manner of minor and nonsensical things.
Am I okay to tell management that I no longer wish to drive a royal mail vehicle?

Years ago you could have as your contract of employment would have stated that you were employed as a postman but now and with the introduction of the postbox strategy where delivery posties have now to combine postbox collections while on their delivery route RM require employees to hold a driving license. More so if you are a floater or reserve and expected to cover duties with a part content of driving and P&L duties and cover for sick/annual leave. If your signed duty has no driving content then this may increase your chances of refusing and if you have not been assessed to drive RM vehicles. You may also decline driving on health grounds and have a good reason to back this up but don't drive to your work in a private car this would look as a blatant refusal to drive for RM when there may be a requirement. If RM consider you to be unsafe with a high risk then I doubt if they would continue to pester you to drive.

What does your job title say in your contract of employement? Mine says Postman with Occasional Driving, which is now driving every day.

If your job title / description in your contract of employment mentions driving, then it might not be a good idea to refuse.

My contract doesn't as I was employed before park and loop came in.but I think if it does say postman with occasional driving then its a reasonable request so you can't refuse unless your duty is the non driving one, maybe, or you've got an injury that prevents driving but that wouldn't work for long
