Taking Mailsort on a Saturday

my union rep just informed me we are going to have to take mailsort on saturday soon, anyone else heard this?

We dont here but I beleieve every office has a different policy on this so its a bit unfair that one office has too and another does not.
And I thought we championed equality and diversity in our workplace.

we dont take any mailsort but we went into sdd with long and shorts and therfor had the argument that we needed to leave the mailsort 3, which you were allowed to do to enable you to have the significantly shorter working saturday. possibly the offices who set up duties with straight 8 hour shifts not permitted to leave mailsort . not sure on this though

My office embraced SDD in 2003, like a lamb embracing a lion. We do not take mailsort out on a Saturday because it has to be a significantly shorter day
than the rest of the week, and the cut-offs would make our DUM's eyes water.

Our office doesn't take mailsort on Saturdays but one or two people like to get ahead and take it anyway.

I never take mailsort out on Saturdays as this will only encourage the screws to make Saturday a normal working day.

advice from area rep was to take it rather than introduce long and shorts in my office

if theres a yes vote then that might change

how can they change the rules either all the mailsort goes or it all stays for monday

When SDD was introduced back in 2003 the agreement stated:

Saturday attendances will be significantly shorter than weekday attendances. To assist this Mailsort 3 need not be scheduled for delivery and missort runs should be rescheduled to enable an earlier start on town residential delivery routes.

Within some offices Reps agreed that the 318's were actually changed to show a reduced attendance on a Saturday, other offices rather than listening to thier Reps , listened to their managers who said "there's no need to agree a shorter attendance and change the 318's for a Saturday as you'll be getting an early finish anyway because you won't be taking mailsort 3. " This came back to bite them on the arse when proposals for shorts & longs were put forward.

Within offices that agreed to a shorter attendance on a Saturday when SDD was introduced, and the 318's were changed to reflect this, management couldn't do a thing . However within offices that trusted their managers judgement and kept an 8hr attendance on a Saturday they were told "either you accept shorts & longs or deliver the mailsort 3."

So in answer to your question, if your 318 shows an 8hr attendance on a Saturday, load up your bags.

Worrying thing is, if the Pay & Modernisation Agreement gets carried, those offices who haven't agreed to shorts & longs will be expected to work to their time EVERY DAY including Saturdays, which means they won't be finishing until between 2 & 2:30pm.

We don't take mailsort on a Saturday due to the shorter attendance time, but the worrying thing is how many offices have a different local agreement. Makes you think doesn't it, just think what it'll be like if this deal gets voted in with all the different local agreements for everything. We're going to need some very strong union reps, I'm lucky my rep and the deputy rep are really good but my heart goes out to those offices who don't.

mailsort optional on Saturday, if you fancy a lighter monday take it, most staff have clear frame for reserves monday and reciprocated upon return. saturday hrs 0600-1300 with delivery commencing 0900 so with a few signatures and 739's issued we not significantly gaining any time.

we don't take m3 on saturday, but our dum says this is going to change!!! another example of local negotiation? ie NO negotiation!!!! he says its because we have the same attendance on sat as the rest of the week????

We dont take our mailsort on Saturdays and like you our attendance is the same as the rest of the week.We should take it as we are on a long day but the previous Dom did not read the SDD agreement and the current one dont want the agrro.
