Flexing

Post by exaandt »

I have been told this week and all summer that I will have to obsorb or flex a part of another duty as the call rate on my round has dropped due to letter mail dropping off.
What is the correct proceedings to inform the managers I cannot do this flexing due to lack of time please.
My outdoor job has been put through geo route but nothing indoor has been sorted also I have to drive for 11 minutes to go back on my round to empty postboxes that times haven't changed
I have tried to explain all this to the managers but it always ends in a argument
Also is being told I will be taken off my job , when no on else is told the same harassment
Hope you can help
Many thanks

It's been talked about on here many times. Just tell them you'll run out of time, and ask what they want you to do with the mail that's left over at finish time.

You don't actually need to inform them because flexing is ONLY for exceptional circumstances ie sorting machine breaks down or floods. Flexing is not to be used daily as a matter of routine. If you are asked to do it put in a grievance form and remind them what flexing is for.

While you are at it remind them flexing is voluntary. Decline to flex. If they ask for a reason say 'other commitments' or 'confidential reasons' and leave it at that. If they threaten repercussions put in a grievance form and inform them they are acting illegally by threatening you with punishment/loss of duty. Also tell them workplace harassment is not tolerated by RM. Stay calm, don't argue with them, make sure there are witnesses around, write everything down in a diary.
