Afternoon all.
things have come to a head in our DO and I need to call a meeting for all the union members to discuss where we go from here.
so, do I have to ask the DOM's permission to call a meeting? or can I just advise him that I am calling one?
Can it take place in say the Canteen? if no can it take place on RM property at all or will I have to take it to the gate?

Calling a meeting.
You don't have to ask his permission to have a meeting unless it's happening during working hours, or on Royal Mail property. When it is, in the first instance it's just good politics to at least ask him. Also, the problem is, if it is on RM property are the members willing to throw management out of the meeting, if not you may have unwelcome visitors.
Whenever we have an organised meeting we hold it outside work just after knocking off time. Gate meetings are okay, but they are a bit drastic and send a message all of their own, we tend to use them for immediate and important issues rather than planned or festering ones.

I am hoping that the DOM agrees to us using the Canteen and he will have no way of being in the meeting with us as he will have to man the callers office as the staff in there are Union Members. :)
I was always going to ask him for permission and I don't think he deny us the right to have one but you never know with Dom's from one day to the next.
