Confused?

I'm on a 6hr day contract.
Been told to come in at 7.50 and official finish time at 2.30.
This is 6hr 40 mins?
Are the 40m ins my meal break and are they paid?

It appears they just expect you to extend 40 mins.For 6 hours you get 30 mins paid break.Which would mean a start time of 7.50-finnish time 1.50.

Thanks. So if i take 10 min break at start and 20 min during day then this means i stop delivering at 1.30pm and anything else is overtime. is this correct?
Also as i have long weekends does this make any difference?

What is your start time in your contract?

One of the problems with managers is that you can't tell if they are asking you to do something or telling you to it.

In this case you are being asked to work 40 mins overtime everyday.

If it was me, I'd see the manager the first day and double check where I write down my overtime. When he looks confused, I'd remind him that he asked me to work 40 mins every day. Also, to stop them from taking me for granted, I'd occasionally see him and tell him that I can't work that 40 mins overtime on fri/sat/whatever as I need to get away on time.

Ive still to find out if they are asking me to go overtime 40mins per day, they dont seem to explain much, maybe they expect me to work for free!!!
Will take your advice and ask tomorrow exactly what they have in mind.
If its an extra 40mins per day i dont mind, other part-timers have also had hours cut, i have to make sure that i dont come in early like one postie plans to do, if i do and i complete walk without going over then Dom will probably keep me on those hours!!

Your work-shy desk jockey ( also known as a line manager/DOM) is trying to take advantage of the fact that you're relatively new. If you want to work that extra 40 minutes each day, make sure you book it each day, and have a brief chat with him/her at the end of the week to summarise exactly how much overtime you've worked just in case he/she 'forgets'

to book it.
