came into work on the 4th Jan.only to discover there was no canteen open.....
spoke to management and got nothing extra like extra on our break to go to local shops etc.
no union men available due to all being at there monthly meeting......so?

You could try doing like the rest of us. Put a sandwich, flask, packet of crisps and a choc bar in your pack before work and eat them when time permits. Canteens? Can't believe some places still have them when such a large portion of the staff nationwide have to manage without and do so without fuss.

I think his point was he had no opportunity to put anything in his pack?.
He turned up for work expecting a canteen and there wasn't one.
He wasn't given the opportunity to make alternative arrangements.

Ok, fair point. I would have been cheesed off about it if there were no prior notification. However, break time is 40 mins. Bit sucky if some of that time is taken up getting to the nearest shop and back, but that is the reality for many of us ( on delivery, anyway)

Work all the way through it and do like delivery do go over your time for nothing and come in on your week off some people your lucky you have a job!

Would you not also be slightly miffed if somebody on the same pay, working in the same company and with (supposedly) the same terms and conditions was complaining that something which you could only dream of but would never happen was removed from them. Oh boo hoo for you comes to mind. I apologise if I appear to be unreasonable.
