Increasing Delivery Lengths
I have a town delivery and I am curious to know what is the maximum delivery span? The reason I ask is that a new development of houses is being built near my round and more are planned. So I can see the management passing some from another round my way. This along with potential summer savings (more delivery) and further cuts this year will I think longer delivery times. I already do portering in the office as well as sorting. Isn't the max delivery 3.5 hrs? Although I already do over 4hrs. Do the management think we are Olympic athletes?

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Ours average 5 hours , 6 is not uncommon , we are a small sub rural office with duties having between 20 to 50 miles of driving ,obviously the ones with less driving deliver more.
Fortunately the indoor time is around 1:45 hrs and we do not lapse as that has all been absorbed over time.Overtime is never an issue but then again nobody cuts off.

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Most offices are now 4hr plus deliveries, there no longer is any maximum delivery span

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
As Zx says There are no Longer Limits on Delivery Time. A lot of our Duties are 4 to 5 hours long already.
Management "Try" to help us by taking more indoor work off us....so we can "Get out the Door Earlier". But in theory if that is the case we could come in to a fully prepped and bagged duty, as some Part Timers already do, and then face a 7 hours plus Deliver Span!
The Old Mantra, "Just Work to your Time" obviously still applies, but as we are all employed to carry out any work Royal Mail requests of us (during that time) the above scenario would still be an option for them!
In your particular situation, you don't have to lapse/absorb if you cannot do it within your Duty time (which should be a fairly easy concept for you DOM to grasp) and if for example they give you an extra 40 mins work from the adjoining duty....just tell him I have an extra 40 mins work which I cannot do within my duty time, "What do you want to do about it"? Unfortunately after offering you it on overtime, if you don't want that overtime, that's when the Bullying & Harassment normally starts.
Just remember Knowledge is Power. You know what the official guidelines are (even if your DOM doesn't) stick to your guns, watch your back (don't get caught doing anything stupid like bringing mail back) and there is basically nothing he can do to you! Good Luck.

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. It could be 3 hours or 10 hours.
All you need to know is your start time and your finish time so cut off and then bring what's left back to the office.
So as I said INCREASED DELIVERY LENGTHS are not a problem and don't worry about it

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Sorry but i would have to disagree about delivery lengths not being a problem,we have had 3 IHR from my office in the past 12 months for various joint problems,i myself have had to have time off recently with foot and back pain,i do the job properly using the trolley, breaks ect,but i am walking 5 hours plus on a regular basis, and the DOM now has a bunch of muppets who come in up to 2 hours early unpaid to not only throw there own walksort off, prep d2d ect but do the same on my frame,YES FOR FREE,so now the DOM says bag up and have your break you have about six hours to deliver your walk plus any lapsing, she does not see any problem with it.eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. I see a problem with it,in the next couple of years i will be out of a job due to IHR because i am knackered or out of a job because of the amount of sick leave i will have taken

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Get your Union rep to stop them from prepping your walk or the Area rep to pop in and do something about it. You do not have to do a longer span because someone is prepping unpaid, I would be really taking that one all the way. Good luck.flimflamman wrote:Sorry but i would have to disagree about delivery lengths not being a problem,we have had 3 IHR from my office in the past 12 months for various joint problems,i myself have had to have time off recently with foot and back pain,i do the job properly using the trolley, breaks ect,but i am walking 5 hours plus on a regular basis, and the DOM now has a bunch of muppets who come in up to 2 hours early unpaid to not only throw there own walksort off, prep d2d ect but do the same on my frame,YES FOR FREE,so now the DOM says bag up and have your break you have about six hours to deliver your walk plus any lapsing, she does not see any problem with it.eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. So a 6-8hr delivery is fine with you?eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. It could be 3 hours or 10 hours.

How old are you?
How long have you been in the job?
Are you full-time?
Are you on a rural?
Do your colleagues share your appetite for longer deliveries?
The longer each delivery gets the fewer posties they need, surely that is obvious.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
You have got the wrong end of the stick, what I was trying to say was that regardless what they try to give you (3 hours or 10 , which you cant do anyway) just work your time and make sure you throw your own frame off.fishtank wrote:So a 6-8hr delivery is fine with you?eastie wrote:it doesn't matter and don't worry about the delivery length or time. Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Have a look through some other threads about longer deliveries and less indoor work.
It's already happening !
The idea ALREADY being trialled is that there will no longer be any ips frames as you currently know them.
there will be a one wave arrival at DO.
The DO will be split into 2 or more shifts starting at staggered times, so as to make room for all your trays.
Your mail will arrive in trays from the MC and you will simply integrate letters, flats and packets/parcels whilst you are out on delivery (i kid you not).
Go out in your van for about 3-4 hrs.
Whilst your out delivering, the 2nd shift will arrive for work and do as you have done.
You return to DO for meal break and then out for the same again.
I would post links to relevant threads but am off out very soon, but this has already been mentioned more than once.
Just one i remember - http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=72200" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Increasing Delivery Lengths
Hope you enjoyed your night out Mezza? Do you think these options are a Realistic Option? At present RM can't even make the "New Delivery Methods" work! We were promised a "Review" of how they were working/not working. Some duties merely removed bikes and replaced them with vans. Works for some, not others. We are told it takes no longer to deliver a parcel than a letter Ha Ha
It takes no longer to Deliver To Neigbour Ha Ha
And now they propose this BS....sounds like a load of suits sat around a table in wherever. ..... (Where is the BS HQ nowadays)?
I don't know about you but my frame is normally surrounded by a pile of Mech Boxes (delivered by the early birds who open up), a pile of IPS boxes (delivered by porters to save time), a pile of Larger Packets (that are stacked by porters/early birds from the packets area), a York...often two (to load my prepped duty into) and then I go and collect a smaller Redskin full of packets and another small redskin for tracked. All that's left is to collect a box (if I'm lucky) of Specials from the cage. TBH I'm always surprised that all this mail & packets can be sorted in such an organised manner and actually gets delivered to the correct addresses from anywhere in the world! It does actually work.
It therefore comes as no surprise that some Suit thinks they can improve on it to just shave a few quid of the overall cost!
And you suggest that this new idea is to sort all this mail IN THE BACK OF YOUR VAN?
Let them try it, it'll be f***ing Chaos on a scale not seen since Pompeii!
I just hope they let the idiots that proposed this triall the idea..... I'll be laughing my cock off!
