Its how I think TNT operate in Holland and perhaps this is one of those new trials starting in your area. There have been predictions on this board that this is the future.

Full time posties sorting and throwing off walks in the office and sending it out to Part timers who do the actual deliveries - would work out far cheaper for Royal Mail if they franchised out the walks which I think is a further step from this but not beyond the bounds of possibility.

It won't be too great for the customer once some light fingered casual realises the value of some of the stuff in that pouch, or some lazy sod realises he can get finished much quicker by dumping it.

There is an office in the North East what has one of these waysider duties.

I dont want to go into detail as it is a delicate situation but i can tell you that it has caused no end of problems and resentment throughout the rest of the office.

That can not be 6 hour deliveries 5 day week------------ He would be taking out 2 rounds (give or take a bit). He would have 8 to 10 + bags a day or more.

We have normal town rounds taking 10 bags out a day, and that is without using teh weight table the union sent through last week.
How do thay deal with specials and 739's, I know this is what RM want as someone else mentioned it's the way TNT does it, perhaps C&L think that is we look like TNT and work like TNT, perhaps TNT will just sign us up to work for them.

Don't worry my bubble is intact The OP said his DUM told him it was common place, so far only a few offices seem to have it, so its not common place. I cant understand how a Rep would let this practice start.

You've got nothing to be sorry about. The more communication we have between us, the greater the chances of solving our problems. Isn't that the point of Sites such as this?

Of course, we all know the problems that can arise if you say the wrong thing, to the wrong manager. But unless we take the trouble to talk to them, how will we ever reduce the amount of conflict between us?

I agree - from what I have seen, the site is a great solidarity tool. It's also a great university for us new 'uns, what with all the old professors and lecturers to boot! It is no doubt an extremely powerful platform for highly skilled workers who in some cases don't recognise their highly specialised work.
