I know people are NOT getting a day in lieu if their day off is a Saturday as its been agreed it is a non-service day. fair enough. but there are part timers in our office who are given a Tuesday off, week in, week out, all year round, that are being told their day off for the week commencing 21st December is to be.......Saturday. now call me cynical if you want, but is RM not pulling a fast one here by giving people a day off when nobody is required. surely this has to be illegal!.. if you're day off happens to FALL on the 26th, then fair enough. but to ALLOCATE a no service day as you're day off is highly questionable to say the least. can they do it?

NO if your day off happens to fall on 26th it is not FAIR enough at all! No fairer than giving any reserve the Saturday off that week. If you're day off Saturday that week whether you were due it or given it, you should get it back, full stop. We are working 4days that week while others are working 3. Tell me how that is fair? Please.

It's irritating but not unfair. next time we are faced with the situation will be 2020, being the sad gits we are in my office we have worked out that anybody with xmas eve (thursday) off this year, based on our day off rotation, will be due to be off on Saturday 26th 2020.

Obviously we have no way of knowing where the business will be then, but it helps re-assure the people who are claiming unfairness that while it feels like they have been singled out and shat upon, it will most likely be someone else next time.

It's not unfair when the s**t is spread about, no matter how long it takes to spread it.

based on shift times at our d/o if a reserve had six consecutive Tuesdays off they need to get claiming for unpaid work.
a "tuesday off" week means you work over your hours, only by getting a fair share of wed/thu/fri off does it average out ok
regular tuesdays off equates to working about 7hrs for free every six weeks

It might be bad luck for a walk-holder that gets his/her regular saturdays off. What if you are a Reserve that rarely gets a saturday off but you have been put on a hard round over Xmas because the walkholder is off on long term and then wham? The unfairness just mounts - I get no saturdays in 15 weeks, then gets one and then it is a non-service day. Wow!

The other thing is that there is no guarantee I might be on te same round on the 28th - when it is actually a bank holiday. dDouble wow!!

the union have said it only affects 20% of the workforce so are happy to let it go.!!. there will be winners and losers, in this instance, the losers are the minority.

I am trying to get my head round this. If I am full time and work 5 days a week and have not been scheduled a day off over the Christmas week, how many days should I be paid for and would I be entitled to any lieu days back?

if you don't have a scheduled day off, they will probably try to get away with giving you the Saturday 26th December, which is a no service day, hence you wont get a lieu day for it. its a disgrace.

When our duties were listed last Wednesday for next week Tuesday to Friday duty holders were listed for 3 days. Reserves listed to cover similar duties were given a spare shift in my case on Sunday night. When we questioned the fairness of this we came back in on Thursday to find that while our listed hours hadn't changed every reserve was now listed as "spare" for the whole week. I was told this morning that this policy was imposed from on high and that our bosses here in Aberdeen weren't happy about it either.
Is anyone elsewhere in a similar position? I would have thought that if some staff are only required to work 3 shifts for the then in the interests of fairness and equality everybody works 3 shifts and those who are required to work 4 in order to maintain the USO get a days leave back.
