Do they still have weight? The Tube workers got what they wanted.... for now. We need to unite nationally again. Without us all behind them, the unions will fail which makes it a lot easier for the management to have their own way.worktotime wrote:I think so cause they are still taking my money , but your right its gone very quiet from big dave and his crew , with all s**t and b&h in offices at the moment.

Re: It's all gone quiet
totally agree with you but dave ward had a q&a session on his facebook page , most questions where aimed at the way members are being treated on a daily basis in delivery offices by managers over lapsing , unmanageable work etc , but nothing has changed he is more bothered about getting your vote for corbyn as labour leader and to be honest who gives a s**t, so why have a session like he did with his members if nothing will be done or change.DocketLefty wrote:Do they still have weight? Judging by the response on here, everyone is prepared to get walked over on a daily basis. Sad really.

Never been in a union before...
I start next week as a part time OPG and been considering whether to join the Union or not?
I would feel 'exposed' not being a member but if the Union is not really doing much is it worth it?

It isn't perfect but you can join and opt out of 'Political Levy' if you don't want to donate to labour and it will be slightly cheaper, which is what myself and many colleagues have done. You get free legal action on your behalf if needed through accident/dog injury etc. Don't forget the benefits you enjoy and wage awards of above inflation we've had plus Ill Health deals and sick pay have all been previously fought for by the Union and members.
There may be local issues regarding reps or individual DOMs but generally I would recommend joining - especially with the financial incentivization of managers at expense of our hours and well-being which is becoming more prevalent and DOMs consistently skimming P/T contracts by adding hours on a permanent basis but not substantiating the PT contracts to reflect this so you lose these hours on Rota weeks and annual leave.
It's easy to make a mistake, miss a special, spotted having a p!ss or something and the rep cannot represent you if you aren't in.....

Re: It's all gone quiet
is it unions that start early and work for free
is it unions that don't take meal reliefs
is it unions that wont use the equipment (Trolleys etc,,)
is it unions that run around trying to finish early
is it unions that snipe about other staff and tell managers that people are lazy
is it unions that wont do van checks
Remember you elect the local rep. You elect the Area rep. You elect Dave Ward
Some say you get what you deserve I prefer to ask questions and push back when I want answers I suggest when we as a workforce stop fighting each other and feeling sorry for ourselves we will start to come together and support each other, maybe we could call ourselves something that reflects the principles of working together and fighting for each other ehhhh UNION!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When we can support each other then we can maybe rid ourselves of the bullying managers that are rife in this company

It's not big Dave you need to hear from(he's busy saving the world anyway),that's like pre big Dave being the big chief you want bigger Billy to say something.
It's the other bloke who got Dave's job, wosshisname, we need to hear from him.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
