I ask because georouting is coming into our office and they seem to be using 4 hours 45 min as a delivery span.
Seems a bit long ?
What is the correct amount of time it should take?

As far as i know mate 3.5 hours is the max delivery span across the board, but i could be wrong.Could be longer for rurals as most of you use vans i guess.

In our office town deliveries are 3.5 hours and rurals are 4.5 hours.
Dont know why the extra hour per day but I still prefer rurals to town duties.
Hope this helps

Rurals in my office range from 5hrs to 6 1/2 hours :mad I think SDD changed the rules on rurals so that there is not time limit

rurals tend to be about 4.5 hrs, there are no set rules as long as your last letter is done by a set time,im not sure what that will be now thanks to later starts,as a guide line if you can do it in your hrs have a break and get back and finished you are wasting your time arguing

Health and safety regs mean that walks cannot be over 3.5 hours, but obviously rurals and van rounds have a high percentage of driving within them, and also usually don't have to carry much weight at any one time.

Does anybody know if the 3.5 hour limit, is a H & S issue due to carrying weight or a limit on walking?

yes it's from health and safety trials they did a few years back, they said more than 3.5 hours was to much on your feet and back

but!!! (this is why the stories are always in the courier) if the town deliverys could be motorised eg electric cycles and trolleys
then they can get around the health and safety aspect and extend our deliverys!!!

i'm 99.9% sure this is right

If 3.5 hours is a H&S limit for deliveries then once Walk Sequencing Machines have all but eliminated the sorting element of the job none of us can expect to be working more than about four hours a day, and long gone will be the days of a full time career with Royal Mail.

Reductions in jobs will be he norm with a sprinkling of Buy down of hours. Thats why RM wanted to alter the MTSF aggrement to save money!
