P/T F/T Ratio

Post by Jpro747 »

Isn't there an agreement with the CWU that all offices should have a ratio of at least 75/25? In our office the ratio is getting more like 50/50, and many full time leavers have been replaced with 20 hour contracts. Not only that but most of the part timers are regularly doing full time rounds. We don't have a union rep in our DO. Is this allowed?

The 75/25 ratio was supposedly a national average which was rubbish of course. It meant that London had a 98/2 ratio and some backwater had 50/50 or even less. Now it's even worse, there's no check or balance by the CWU and only some obtuse Area Rep would defend it and as you say you have no Rep and no one gets a full time contract anymore. You won't find the ratio being on the agenda in CWU circles.

Whats the point of the agreement then if its not enforced?? In fact, whats the point of any agreement, if they are not enforced?? What do we pay our union subs for? Staff on part time contracts doing full time hours but not getting paid the hours of a full time time contract & pension contribuitions when they are on leave. A great way for the royal mail to save/make more money at our expense. Yet the mangers & directors & moya of course, can enjoy the massive salaries ! Pi$$es me off no end!!!

The agreement was a sop to the membership who knew the ratio was already falling as no new full time contracts were ever given out. Successive agreements meant that fewer hours were needed to man an office and indoor hours fell and are still falling. It looked good on paper but was never intended to be honoured by either side. In fact in some areas the ratio was already well below the agreed standard. It's no longer 75/25 now anyway there's still a figure quoted but not that it means anything. The Dave Ward new broom era will keep sweeping it under the carpet.
