Sick leave question ?

hello folks been reading many posts and find this site very good indeed and very helpful as well !
The reason for me posting is I have had a bad back since 7th April and was at work on that day and put on light duties .

Manager informed me that they don't have enough work for me to be on light duties so will have to go sick .

So went sick on the Wednesday saw the doctor on Friday and he confirmed I had acute mechanical back pain with sciatica and gave me a sick note advising not fit for work for 2 weeks from then till 24th April, thing is I was on holiday from the 13th for one week ( will get that back in due course )

The thing is from Tuesday I will go over the 14 days sick and go on to a first stage I think , I must admit not keen on that I am reasonably fit now for work but I don't really want to do my back in again as going through that would be hell! My sick record is very good can't remember the last time I was off ? Should I go back hopefully on light duties so not to go on a stage or take the full time of till 24th? Cheers for any advice on this matter

get another sick note and dont go back till your backs ok

If you definitely feel up to light duties inform your manager and ask for it to be documented that you have made yourself available for a staged return to work. Contact your rep and explain the situation.

The business policy is to get you back to work as soon as possible even if it means adjusted duties and management have been told from above to make every attempt to make this happen. If your manager refuses he/she will have to justify that decision. I can tell you from experience it won't end well for them.
