As part of the recent campaign to retain the union's political fund, we promised that we would provide all members an opportunity to stay in the political campaign fund but opt out or opt in of the weekly contribution to the Labour Party. This promise also mirrored the decision of our Annual Conference last year.
"Our political work is crucial," explained general secretary Billy Hayes. "There will always be different views amongst CWU members on parties and governments but the political fund ballot result proved we all agree that we need a strong political voice.
Billy Hayes 2010 "The union is affiliated to Labour and this policy has been debated at many conferences of the union by your elected local representatives. Conference has always maintained our affiliation to Labour, deciding that Labour is our best hope of progressing and promoting the policies and laws that improve the lives of workers.
"We have kept our political voice, now let us all ensure it stays strong," urged Billy.
The union has two political accounts. One for those who want to support our political campaigning and wish to include the small financial support to Labour; the other for those who wish to support the union's political work, but not pay anything towards Labour. The choice has always been yours but now you have the opportunity to indicate your preference as part of a formal exercise.
"i promised you the choice and I am making this as easy as possible," added Billy.
Visit Labour link on the CWU website and simply fill out the online form to submit your choice directly to our membership department who will make the necessary adjustments to the allocation of your membership subscription. Alternatively complete the form sent to all members' home addresses and post it back to us using the return address specified.

Did anyone else have trouble with the pre-paid envelope that came with this? The glue on mine wouldn't adhere (nor did it seem like it was one of those where you tore off a strip to get to the glue.)
Eventually, I gave up and voted on-line... which pretty much says it all these days. And, I voted Yes. Just wanted to be able to vote in the Labour Party leadership elections in the future.
