Hello,
First time poster here.
I was just wondering if there is a copy of the annual leave policy available?
I submitted days off recently for through the year that i would need and told i had no annual leaves left - then realized that i have automatically been allocated my annual leave for three weeks in a row as chosen by Royal Mail later in the year?
I don't need the weeks off that i have been allocated an would much prefer to book my annual leave for days that i will need through out the year, so is this standard policy?
I am a relative newbie so no idea how this works really, but i am pretty sure that it can't be right that they can just pick and choose your summer leave for you?
Thanks!

Re: Annual Leave Policy?
Selection of Annual Leave is set out in the Way Forward Agreement 2000 (section 4) which I think is in the downloads section of this forum. But basically it says that RM and CWU will locally agree their own AL selection procedures.
I doubt that any unit would allow people to take their AL as single days. That would be far too complicated to arrange. AL is usually allocated in weekly blocks, except for any odd days.

Section 4 page 21 in the above link will give you an idea of your Annual Leave.
This can be altered with a local agreement so you will have to check with your union rep if this applies at your office.
You can also arrange to swop holidays with your work colleagues from the same unit to your preferential holiday dates if agreed.
You may also carry 5 days of your annual leave into the next financial year or more than 5 days you will have to put in a written request to your manager.
Hope this helps.

Re: Annual Leave Policy?
You can also apply for Special Leave 'Day out of Course'. But you would have to give a good reason for this, and if your manager agrees it, it would be taken from your current year's annual leave. Not easy to get though as your manager will have to arrange cover of your duty.
