Why are there so many different payments for election material across the country rangeing from 3p-6p surely this is unfair after all royal mail is an equal oppurtunies employer and the union keep going on about one voice one union,also royal mail doing allowance reveiws do they think it fair that one office gets 3p yet another dely office gets 6p for the same material?????

4) Payments

All existing local payments covering the delivery of election material as stated in paragraph 2 above will remain in place, and in accordance with this agreement, with the following exceptions.
1. The minimum payment for delivering election material will be 3p per item.
2. The maximum payment for delivering election material will be 6.6p per item.
3. All hours based schemes will be converted to pence per item schemes and then the criteria in 1 and 2 above will be applied. Where delivery offices have introduced a SDD revision since the last delivery of election material then the following formula will be applied prior to the criteria in 1 and 2 above being applied.

Previous no. Walks X O/T hours per walk e.g. 35 X 2 hrs hours = 3.5hrs
Current no. of Walks 20

4. In those Units where there are two payments e.g. 4.5p for the first three parties and 1.67p for additional parties the minimum payment will become 3p with any payments over this amount being retained.
5. In those Units where there is a mixture of hours and pence per item based payments the process in 4) 3. above will be followed for the hours based element, with the process in 4) 4. above then being applied.

Where election material items exceed 20g in weight a further 0.5p will be payable.

Why does my Union uphold legacy agreements which treat some Members more favourably than others? (Why should someone receive half of the amount per item delivered as someone else?)

Ok so if that was agreed who in there right mind would tell there members its ok for u to get 3p when other members are getting 6p,dont try n tell me its one union,one voice cause basically it comes down to sod u im alright attitude and im sorry that just isnt right,ask yourself who is the winner here,i think royal mail,divide n conquer,is the union fighting for those members getting 3p to bring them up to the maximum level not in our office there not

Sorry, that post from four years ago still does not answer the question. If every delivery OPG is being paid for each item, then the only way to have no winners and losers is for each to receive the same. If that means those receiving 6p per item now receives 4p in order that those who receive 3p can also receive 4p, then so be it. Fairness is a fundamental cornerstone of our union values.

But isn't the idea to aspire to bring your members conditions upto those of others, not to bring someone else's conditions down to those of yours.

If your idea is to bring the others up to your standard, then why has there been NO progress in the last 20+ years

Never said standards I said conditions, and yes for at least seven or eight years the union have let conditions slip backwards. Also in my previous job before RM we voted to except a pay freeze for three years to allow other union members, in other parts of the country to come up to our level of pay, notice the union didn't expect us to take a pay cut to bring us down to their level.

Also these payments were set many years back and inflation has eroded its value. So we are ineffect all getting paid less for doing them in real terms.

Reading dingo's reply it seems to read that offices that started on the lowest rate can justifiably increase that towards the higher rate that some are now getting. Is that right and as a new rep in an office can you put that forward to the dom and if so what agreement does this come from? Thanks.

if as an office you agree to not deliver them at 3p watch them squirm
hold them to ransom for the higher amount they will cave in
its only voluntery for you but compulsory for mgmt to get them all delivered

Then we have answered the question. The agreement was introduced and accepted based on posties at that time not losing money by everyone being paid 3p when some got more based on overtime or another system.

The reason why it hasn't changed, which is probably the real question, is that because no-one has pushed for it to be changed, except perhaps on a local basis in some offices.

Also to be frank Himaggen even your system would need everyone to go to 6p for there to be no losers, and I can't see RM going for a 100% for the majority. That however shouldn't stop the Union Hierarchy revisiting the issue.
