the rep told me today that RM are offering an extra 13 weeks pay on top of the 104 in the current package for VRs to make it more attractive. two have taken theirs today and left the business, and he reckons its going to carry on year on year.....the exodus has started.

Well dingo must be wrong then because according to him RM feel it's too expensive under the old terms let alone these new rumours. Like any other agreement, the redundancies don't have to be forced, make a good enough offer and there'll be a big enough take up to make it worth the effort. The end result is fewer staff, fewer members and more work. RM are going straight to the members offering enhanced rates, possibly, and the union can't do anything about it. The same thing happens on the shop floor day in day out when the managers want something they sidestep the rep and broach whatever it is directly to the members.

Royal Mail are not offering a further 13 weeks money. Royal Mail are however offering if you sign up to a VR with CWU local agreement by the 27th March you will be paid your notice period be that 13 weeks or less dependent on your length of service but you will not have to work it.

My understand something will go out next week.

No they will not get 13 weeks extra money as they would normally get that 13 weeks money while working their notice. This new offer means they get the 13 weeks money but do not need to go to work.

In theory then they take the 13 weeks pay, don't work for RM but go to work for someone else for the 13 weeks that they are being paid by RM

Dvbuk they would not be allowed to work for someone else as they would simply be on gardening leave until their notice period ran out in line with Royal Mail contract. The simple fact is that it is full time jobs which are going due to the reduction in indoor workload and they are being replaced by part time contract staff on or around 24 hours .

dingo its not true you cant work for another company within your gardening period because when i started at RM i did just that paid by both companies, just got taxed more for the final 3 weeks of my previous companies gardening leave all legally. Was only just over a year ago so unless something changed since its legally fine to do so, so i was informed by the hmrc its only like working 2 jobs.

Really? Well I'll just bet they'll all be at home twiddling their thumbs for three months then if you say so...................or probably not. Will that be 13 weeks pay up front or week by week, either way it doesn't really matter, just the tax bill goes up. Keep protecting those full time jobs though

I suppose it is to get a revision in with less indoor work and a bit of tweaking as they say but the reality is the part-time to full time ratio will not be the 25%/75% mix more like 50%/50% and next year 75%/25% so much for the workers!
