Postal Executive Pay Secret.

Anyone know if it's true that members of the CWU Postal Executive now receive a salary of £35k plus? If it is who is paying them and why does it appear to have been kept secret? Thanks.

I don't know and I don't care - they will be paid from Union subscriptions to act on our behalf and the salary you suggest is probably better value for money for union members than a managers salary is for Royal Mail ....... sooooooo ..... if you are a postie, that should calm you down and if you are a manager .... you know what we think of you :)

Been a posty for many years and rep for almost as long. Attended many conferences. Last year's annual general conference debated and agreed to pay regional secretaries a similar salary out of members subscriptions. No such debate vis a vis PEC pay took place at Postal industry conference. I don't recall seeing an LTB on the subject which is why I asked.

I would imagine all salaries including Billy Two Shoes are shown in the annual accounts.

Do area reps and branch secretary's get paid from their branches ? I've heard theirs a thing call top up / loss off earnings where the branches pay them hear or caused a major issue with the members in the West Country a little while ago

The issue of Postal Executive getting Divisional Reps pay is no secret , it has been discussed at most conferences for a number of years.

The fact is that the PEC have a different make up of basic pay , you have one motor mechanic and one enigneer , one on Logstics pay , one on counters pay , 2 on Divisional Reps pay and the rest on Royal Mail basic wage.

They spend long hours in work up and down the country . They work weekends especially during AGM season , they do not have a finishing time , they often have to stay away from home and whilst they get their hotel paid for and a meal the HMRC are now all over this issue.

They do not get the ability to work overtime or SA even if it's available in their office .

We have seen a number of PEC members resigned and either go back to work or go and work for another union for more money.

The CWU had a policy to pay them Divisional Reps money and have done a deal with Royal Mail who already pay for a certain number of days paid release for PEC members.

Regional Secretaries are outside of the IR framework and therefore the cost of their pay was all funded by the CWU.

Thanks for the reply dingo. What it didn't say was why the pay deal for PEC members had not been publicised. Incidentally I understand the salary is £38k. If ther's anyone from a branch with a PEC member can you advise whether they have mentioned it?

I do not believe that 38K is over exorbitant for such an important role. It does however become extremely exorbitant if the membership believe that they are not getting the service that they are entitled to, and that decisions are being taken to protect position rather than represent the membership or an individual member.

And that is the $64,000 dollar question really, not exactly without it's reward then and of course it isn't just the hotel, travel and meals there is also the expenses to be sanctioned and I mean look at MPs. Is it any wonder that there are no decisions taken that rock the boat £38k is more than generous considering the add ons.

Lots of CWU reps have been paid money secretly to avoid paying tax at least this is all above board and not dodgy

Above board? If so why hasn't there been much transparency on the issue. Incidentally how many PEC members have gone public? Also on another forum concern has been expressed tha the timing of this may not be unrelated to the pending GS election. It'll be interesting to see how many PEC members branches nominate vote for Dave.
