Cut-Off Procedure.

Post by BarnsleyLackey »

There doesn't seem to be a rock solid directive for this. In our office, people are starting to show diplomatic common sense in putting the ball in their managers court; telling him/her "I won't be able to complete in my time today. What shall I do?", which is great, if you get any sense after the huffing and puffing, tutting, hows whats and whys. But, where do you go if you're getting the you've-got-to-take-it-and-can't-bring-back speech? Also, there are days where it looks OK, but you get out there and after form writing and DTN fun you run out of time. Is a phone call or text message to your lino enough to cover you from the usual wilful delay threats and trip up to see the DOM?

Simply, come hell or high water, if you're coming up to finish time and need to cut off, is a text or phone call, stating what's coming back, all that is needed?

I'm a strong believer in if you don't want OT, you shouldn't have to do it.

Also, to look at two boards worth of mail and decide how long it'll take is pretty tricky some days, esp. with managers behaving as though you must get it within five minutes and not accepting the return to office journey and time it takes to unload etc. In our office "I've got to be back for kids" is a fast and easy reason to back managers off with; but even people who've had to cut off for this reason are getting office-chat treatment.

Cheers for that. It does seem to say that it must be sorted before leaving the office and all mail taken must be delivered, which is understandable. The trouble comes in when line managers, wanting their feet up asap, go out of their way to refuse your recommendations or have you leave less than you feel you should, therefore causing you to go over.

Get your rep to call a meeting and get it sorted once and for all.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Is it me or this the most ridiculous scenario ever. Surely, the default option is that if you want overtime, then carry on,if you don't then you bring it back, it never gets cleared the same day in our office. You should not have to have these daily battles,it is time consuming and annoying for all concerned.
Although ,having said that,if the deliveries were planned properly in the first place, this discussion would not have to take place.
