About needing time to visit the hospital during shift hours

Post by JackJones »

Hey there just think I'd throw some preliminary information out there first I'm currently on a 25 hour 3-month 'rolling' contract, and have been for just under a year now. I have previously been to the hospital outside of shift time and now need to go back in for another scan.

I have signed up for the extra hours on the Christmas contract bringing me up to 39 hours a week. This next hospital appointed I need to attend is at 15:15 and my shift is 15:00-22:00. Now I'm not going to be able to see a proper rep till Monday to ask about this so I thought I'd throw it up here to see if I could get some answers.

Having previously talked to the shift manager about this I was told that it'd be fine but I'd need to work back the hours I missed due to the appointment, not unreasonable in my eyes really. However talking to a guy on my shift he says that I am entitled to 2 hours paid leave to attend a hospital appointment on shift times. Is there any truth to this at all? I do have the letter for the hospital appointment still, if it is true would I then need to get a signature from the nurse/doctor? Just some clarification on if I am entitled to anything would be great.

Your letter will be fine unless your links a monster.
I'm in the same situation but cleared it with the Dom for a days annual leave...not strictly kosher during pressure but it means I don't have to carry it over or work after it.

Maybe try and get the day off if you're waiting on news .u never know exactly how ull feel. :thumbup

They cannot stop you going, they are within their rights not to pay you for going. Your DOM may ask you to make up the time then you won't loose money, some may pay you. It's not like going to the GP or Dentist you can book them outside of your duty, hospital appointments not so easy to arrange.
