Any days the courts do not need you and so long as you knew the day before, you will be expected to attend work as normal, assuming it is not your scheduled day off.
As for pay, don't worry about that, you will be paid your normal weekly rate as normal.
And if you do normally work a Saturday and its not your day off, you will be expected to attend work.

• Can my employee continue to work night shifts or weekends?
It is important that jurors are sufficiently fit and alert in order to carry out their important
public duty. Therefore we would recommend that they should not be made to work night
shifts before they are due in Court, or work weekends if this means that they do not have a
break from either jury service or their job for seven days.

I was called up for jury service last May and was basically told not to attend work unless I was discharged so you must assume you'll be away for two weeks. You might get a longer trial.

After the first week I was discharged. When I rang my office to tell them I was coming back they insisted I attended 08.12-16.00 Mon-Fri. I work nights so it was awkward but was told that was how it worked. You shouldn't have to work the Saturday after Boxing Day.

As for your pay, you'll carry on being paid by Royal Mail as normal while away and you'll be given paperwork by the courts to fill in and return to HR in Sheffield when discharged. You'll get a sum of money off the courts for the days they have you and then RM will adjust your wages against what the courts have paid you.

It'll take a few weeks for the money to be sorted out but you won't lose out financially. Just make sure you have all the right paperwork from Royal Mail before you get to court.
