LTB 763/14 - Early Day Motion 454 Public Service Pensions
No. 763/14
Ref: GS17.4
Date:21st November 2014
TO: ALL BRANCHES
Dear Colleague
Early Day Motion 454 Public Service Pensions
The Labour Party front bench and party leader have signed an Early Day Motion to secure a parliamentary debate allowing the Parliamentary Labour Party to hold the government to account over their actions with regards to the Firefighter's pension scheme. As of today the 21st November 209 MPs have signed the EDM.
The EDM calls for the annulment of the proposed changes to the Firefighter's pension scheme which will see firefighters paying more in contributions and having to work until 60 before they can take the full pension. This change could see some firefighters failing to meet the fitness standard and having to choose between leaving with a reduced pension of up to 50% or face dismissal. Furthermore firefighters will only receive the full pension they signed up for if they work for 40 years in the service and given the current retirement and fitness rates this is unlikely for the majority of firefighters.
It is also possible to sign the FBU's petition on change.org here.
Any further enquiries regarding this LTB should be addressed to the General Secretary's Office at gsoffice@cwu.org quoting the reference GS17.4/LTB 763/14.
Yours sincerely
W HAYES
General Secretary
