Starting before official start time?

I'd just like to know why it's acceptable for the union rep in my office to start 2hrs before he's due to start.

Without their response(s) or knowing the reasons behind it it would be wrong for anyone to make comment on acceptability

I've asked the manager, he said they have an agreement that if it's busy he can help with the sorting.

My problem with this is, He goes in early everyday. By doing this he's doing more senior PTs out of a chance of a FT position
Also this agreement should never have happened without the knowledge of the full office and it being open to all PTs.

the job is screwed and as far as im concerned its every man for himself. I take no pleasure in saying that as ive been in the job for 24 years but what ive seen going on over the last few years means i now do whats best for me to get through the day and dont fight other peoples battles anymore.

Well if he's getting paid for it, could be the managers just greasing the wheels so to speak. I think it's the new managerial approach, see the Reps OK and you get an easy ride and it happens far more frequently these days. Some of the old school Reps have a more honest approach.

Starting early and not taking breaks = creating false figures.

So, when the crap hits the fan and the manager is screaming for lapsing because people are proving they have the spare time, how in gods name can the rep use model figures and daily traffic figures, when it is HE who is creating those false figures !!

Some people find it hard to change from the 'job and finish' way of working and so still come in early. We have a couple of guys like that in our office. They are told time and time again and when have been asked to do extra work cos they finished early they turn and say 'well i started 30min earlier than my start time'!! If you start earlier than your official start time then its voluntarily unpaid work (stupid comes to mind) as your finish time is still the same so you endup doing more work for nothing. You cannot refuse to do extra work if you finish early cos you started to early.

Start and finished when you are suppose to......work the hours you are paid.........its not hard!!

In my experience as a rep you seem to have a beef with your rep.If he is being paid what is your problem in my office early overtime is open to all FULLTIMERS as part time don't do ips and the DOM isn't going to pay out for next to nothing to be sorted .
