2015 holidays

I don't know what is going off in other offices but in ours derby s seniority has been turned on its head so the first choice being given to the people with less time in the service I am left with a summer holiday choice between 29/9/15 and the end of October for two weeks any one with seniority is in the same position to many people chasing the summer breaks coupled with staff shortages this is after working 34 years and having to take undesirable holiday times of the year in my early days but understood why and bided my time

There is nothing that says anywhere that you must get a holiday in any set of months, depending on the method used to allocate holidays it's entirely possible to be landed with all your holidays in the winter (though unlikely)

So next year will it be done on seniority as it seems this year was juniority in your office? If so you will get all your first choice wont you? Or should new starters have to wait 20 years get a reasonable week off?

We have the seniority/juniority rotation in my office and it seems a fair enough system as any!

its not just holidays picking rounds on repicks should be picked out the lucky bag there should not be seniority unless it concerns losing jobs at your unit grow up and do your job were all doing the same job wether its a newbie part timer whatever get over it

Nope that's bull. Seniority should count when picking rounds, etc. But fairer solutions are necessary for holidays as they affect home life. No one should have to wait 20 years before they can share a holiday with their kids. But resigns, it's all work time and we all started at the bottom so seniority in that instance is fair!

In our office, we started with first 2 weeks are on length of service, next 2 weeks reverse length of service , remainder up for grabs.It then rotates each year which is reasonable.

Prob actually quite good, I'm about in the middle which sounds a bit sh1t cos you're never first but if its an initial 2 week allocation then its likely you'll get first choice of 2 weeks every year.

We've got a new idea going at our place starting this year, office is split into 3 groups on seniority,it rotates over 3 years to make it fair and each group gets first choice of 4 weeks.

This sounds ok assuming they don't change it until the 3 year period has run it's
course !

We use a seniority based pick system, it used to be 2 weeks starting from most senior; 2 weeks starting from most junior; then a free-for-all for POAL weeks/ odd days/ other weeks carried over from previous years. The following year, the system was reveresed, so juniors got first pick.

But this year, it appears things have been tweaked... Most seniors are getting first pick, but long serving seniors are getting to pick 3 weeks on the way down, which is not going down well with those more junior that have spotted what is going on this time around.

If seniority is going to be used as a basis for picking, we should be getting split into 3 equal groups as a minimum, because currently middle seniority OPGs are being screwed over. Then it should rotate when top/middle/bottom pick some weeks and everyone should be able to pick the same number of weeks per pass, two weeks per pass sounds reasonable.

seniority should not be being used for picking leave, anyone unhappy should get the rep to put in a disagreement about it and if the rep wont do it then go above him, using seniority to select annual leave is discriminatory
