Honesty doesn't pay

Today I found a wallet I looked through it's contents, it had £90 in cash, a business account card and some business cards. The owner was over the moon when I rang him and as he lives a distance away he said Please take £20.00 reward and pay for postage out of the rest. Naturally I was happy as I'd been rewarded for my honesty..THE MANAGEMENT didn't see it that way...OH NO NO NO, WE will post the wallet back and NO you cannot have the reward...
It got me thinking does my manager have the right to refuse me this reward?..next time shall I be dishonest?..What happens if this wallet now goes missing?..The chap who owns the wallet has my mobile number!....No I'm sorry As a postie I can't believe I now think honesty doesn't pay!

being serious. ive been here a while and sometimes you havew the best intentions and you also have a crappy manager with his head up his arse. I was once told by an experienced posties....never tell them the truth. and hes right. oh and its not dishonest by not telling your manager. you and the customer made an agreement with each other. it should of ended there. I wouldn't of told my dom.

just curiosu where did you find the wallet? was it just out on the street. next time just hand it in to a police station and never tell your dom. with the best intentions also comes a p45. lol

I found it outside a customers house, the owner told me he was going to a party and the taxi driver just dropped them off, as they didn't know where they where he knocked at the door, that's when he lost his wallet..Your right of course about not telling Dom, I was just covering my back TBH. never did I think he was such a tosser.

What would have happened had customer told you to take over £ 30 as a reward for your honesty.

Further to my posting you need to enquire with management as reward was below £ 30 level why this was not acceptable to them for you to keep.
