is there any guidelines on what can and cant be expected of you?
as with every other reserve out there I have issues with days off. I never have a rolling day off nor do I usually cover a duty all week to take that duties day off..
this week I had asked 3 times what day off I was on the following week so I can plan my life around royal mail. finally on Thursday morning a line manager told me it was Friday. I wanted to know before I went out as I was working from a different office today so wouldn't know my day off until I return to work on the Saturday.. that being said I had to report back to usual office where I happened to look at the duty list to see that may day off had now been changed to Tuesday without even being asked or told. needless to say I was far from amused as I had already planned my day off.
spoke to lino that pretty much blamed everyone but himself and had the attitude of tough your a reserve a walked away. I stuck to my guns and the dom changed it to the original day they issued..
what I want to know is why we are being discriminated against because we don't have x amount of years and a fixed duty? we all get paid the same so therefore should be treated the same.
surely there is something in an agreement on what can and cant be done, or a timescale that the duties have to be issued to reserves ect, we do actually have a life to live too

Re: reserve troubles
This is a continuous issue on here, basically, you are entitled to have a rotating day off, regardless of whether you are a reserve or have your own delivery,no ifs, buts or maybes. It is your right ,ask for and continue to demand your rights, nag your rep to death over it, they will get fed up with it in the end.

No you're not.
You are entitled to reasonable notice when your day off is though.

Re: reserve troubles
Where is it written that you are not entitled to a rotating day off? If you have a regular delivery ,you have a rotating day off, unless you have a different ,local agreement, the general principle is a 5 day week, with a rotating day offHowever, just because you are a reserve ,does not mean you are employed on inferior terms and conditions, unless you can show me otherwise. If you can ,then the union has some serious questions to answer.fishtank wrote:rubberbond wrote:basically, you are entitled to have a rotating day off, regardless of whether you are a reserve or have your own delivery,no ifs, buts or maybes.

Sorry it's the wrong way about. Where does it say anywhere that as a reserve you are entitled to a rolling day off. Giving reserves rolling days off is expensive an impractical hence why they don't get them and also why it's not in their terms and conditions giving them then

1st things 1st BT2010 says this...
Now back to days off,is there not weekly resourcing meetings going on,and bar a mass sick explosion it easy-ish to sort days off/who's doing what duty ect.
It's down to lazy and bad management and reps.
It's......not.....f***ing....hard.....ffs!
Has that changed in AFG 2014? I know Saturdays weren't mentioned, just throwing it into the mix.Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme.

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: reserve troubles
People need to get away from this talk of "rights" and "terms and conditions". Your employment "rights" are a pretty basic and loose bunch of laws which are very much open to interpretation but do not include the minute detail of a delivery operation.just because you are a reserve ,does not mean you are employed on inferior terms and conditions
These "rights" are upheld by the Employment Tribunal system which anybody who has had experience will tell you is an expensive crap-shoot at the best of times where you and your eager, well meaning but poorly paid representative will sit across the table out-gunned by a bunch of sharp-suited, very well paid, well educated sharks. It isn't a safety net so much as 4-ply sheet of Andrex waiting to break your fall.
Your "terms and conditions" are even more vague considering they are changed with every agreement we make or every policy the employer decides to implement.
Don't go thinking you're Perry Mason just because you feel you've been "wronged" and read a few t'internet things is all I'm saying. It can and will get expensive and messy.

Re: reserve troubles
that line is pretty much their get out of free card using words such as 'aim' 'majority'Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme
however, more to the point, is there a time frame that they need to let us know when or what our day off is and if they wish to change it?
I don't see that finding out the duty list on a Friday a week before is enough time.. any member of staff that has a fixed duty could work out when they are off in future, even down to their last day before retirement! that's were its not fair, hence feeling discriminated!
the whole structure of using reserves in our office is fecking shocking, merely because there is not one
