Hi, my partner is a 30 hour postman who has his own round but also covers other rounds on sickness and holidays at a moments notice. He was put through his pro-driver training so that he could also do this on the same basis (as and when needed). Royal maid have paid for his courses
He was told two days ago that he had to cover a week of night in two weeks time. This is not easy as he doesnt have his own transport and the buses are not regular. ONly to be told he HAD to it and if he refused they would charge him for his courses and not give him any more driving work
Can this be legal - this is the first time in 3.5 year that he tried to refuse.
Any information would be very gratefully received

Having paid for the driving training then it would be conditional if failing to provide driving cover course expenses could be reclaimed.
Extract from PROFESSIONAL DRIVERS AGREEMENT;
9.6 individuals would be required to accept when they pass the first role offered to them at a location WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE OF THEIR HOME irrespective of the working hours.
What exactly is a reasonable distance of their home is not abundantly clear and not knowing the travelling time from your home to where the driving n/s is to commence is a matter for you to progress.
Would there be any colleagues working the n/s that week that could possibly give him a lift.
