Using CDV vans out of hours

Hi all. A colleague of mine was sent home and escorted out the building today for alleged using van for personal use. Just wondered what the chances are of getting the sack ? Highly likely I would imagine, really stupid of him.

Depends , heard of someone driving through a city 25 miles from his own office in civvies with his mrs in the van , was stopped by a MC manager and ask to explain what he was doing as the manager thought the van was nicked. He didn't get sacked.

Couple of issues here that affect things, using the van for personal use is not insured, so thus driving uninsured, also there is a tax implication for Royal Mail, if it allows the vans to be used for personal use then there may be tax liabilities for Royal Mail or the employees so as such rm can't be seen to allow or condone personal use

If they want to reduce the head count, then the sack is likely. Give 'em enough rope ........
Was it a one-off? Could it be argued that the no personal use policy was not clearly explained?

If they have bothered to watch your colleague use the van on multiple occasions, then resigning might be the best option.

Yeah keys have been booked back in at all different times varying from 4pm til 7pm not used for overtime, was spotted in complete different postcode a good 30mins from base. Definity not a one off.

It certainly was and being escorted from the building is the least of his worries he could be reported for taking and driving without consent, driving uninsured which would be points and a fine. I mean who in their right mind would do it in this RM employment climate.
