retirement...when does a job come up for grabs..

one of our chaps has retired.a while ago (good luck to him)...can you tell me the official time when his job should of come up for grabs..ie.

chap left ..dom put his job up for grabs within 3 months .....so it was advertised few folks put there name forward and someone got it and signed for it ..now some folks are not happy as they say it should be a year then it should be re advertised is this correct?


or has the dom done the right thing?..

it should be within 6 months of it becoming vacant, so DOM doing it in 3 months is actually pretty fair, the sooner its done the sooner you can get the staffing numbers back up to what they should be

I agree with ZX135 the DOM not only followed the procedure he actually did better than what happens in most offices.

The reason for a vacancy has no bearing on the procedure, and once the duty is filled with a volunteer there is no need to readvertise it. The "12 month and then readvertise it" may be getting confused with the stipulation that someone applying for and getting a vacant post cannot apply for another vacant one within 12 months (unless there is a revision/repick)

Should it? there must be at least 15 duties vacant in our office and increasing as folk leave, to my knowledge it must be well over 18 months since a vacant duty was advertised.

From the way forward agreement, vacancies should be filled after 6 months or when your unit reaches 5% vacancies which ever is sooner

14.6 When the number of consequential vacancies in the resourcing unit reaches 5%, or after a period of six months following the last such exercise (if earlier), the posts will be advertised in the resourcing unit, en bloc and filled on the basis of seniority. If this results in any further vacancies, these will be filled, using the same process as above.
