I've been informed today by my DOM that if I have any union issues that I HAVE TO go to my local rep first. Although my rep is a decent bloke I have little or no faith in him so I go straight to my area rep. Apparently this is not the correct procedure and my DOM assures me that my area rep is fully aware of this and he will be reporting him. He didn't say who to though.
Any information on this will be gratefully received before I speak to my area rep next week.

When the area rep swings by our place, it gets tongues wagging. There's always been the feeling that the area rep has more clout, and if he/she is here, it serious.
The local rep, for all their goodwill, is mostly regarded as simply someone who stands beside you on the day. The DOM sees this too, and would sooner deal with someone at that level, than say, a bigger hitter.
